7th Annual Poetry Reading in the RBR

On Tuesday night, April 19th at 8:00 we are celebrating National Poetry Month with our 7th annual Poetry Reading in the Rare Book Room of the E.H. Little Library.  Last year was great fun, and we’re looking forward to this year’s event. Davidson students, faculty members, and town poets —talented all—will read from their own works.  There will also be time afterwards for refreshments and chatting with the poets.

How did this start?  When I came up to the Archives & Special Collections Department in the summer of 2009 we wanted to start promoting both use of the volumes in the Rare Book Room for research, and also use of the space for research and special events.  We decided to hold a special Poetry Reading Night in April of 2010 to celebrate National Poetry Month, and invite students, faculty and local poets to come and read from their own poetry…to have a place for their creative voices to be heard, and for others to share with them their love of poetry.   The event was such a success that we’ve held it every April since, and poets and listeners alike have let us know that they look forward to that night each year.

So, if you’re in Davidson on April 19th, and if you love poetry, please come celebrate with us!
